Thursday, September 17.

Students completed in class assignment on Active and Passive Voice. The students entered the activity in the grammar section of their Learning Logs. No homework for this evening. Friday's activity will be the practice Georgia High School Graduation Test. The Unit Test is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22.

Student completed the During Reading and After Reading Activities for "Learning to Fly". Also, student began working on the Fill-in-the-Blank Study Guide for the Unit Test. The Unit Test is on Tuesday, September 22.

Thank you to all of you who came to Open House last night! If you were unable to come to Open House, then your student will be taking home the information sheets today. In class, students continued to read "Learning to Fly". We discussed characterization and character development.

Reminder: Early Release Day Tomorrow. Also, students will be receiving their rough drafts back on Friday and will have one week to edit their drafts.

Students dicussed song lyrics and began to discuss the short story titled "Learning to Fly". Students need to complete the Before Reading Activities for the short story in their Learning Logs.

Today, students worked in small groups to complete The Scarlet Ibis packet. The completed packet is due on Monday and the packet will count as a formative assessment grade.

In class, we finished reading, "The Scarlet Ibis," and discussed the symbolism with the color red. Students are to complete page 3 in their packet and the color chart for homework. Be prepared to discuss the chart in class Friday.

Today the students began working with The Scarlet Ibis (pg. 554 in the textbook). Students completed a vocabulary activity and we started reading the story. We will finish reading the story tomorrow in class.

Students completed a viewing activity for The Cask of Amontillado. Then each student completed an in-class forshadowing activity.

Have a safe Labor Day weekend! There is no homework in Language Arts.

Today we reviewed the textual evidence map activity from The Most Dangerous Game. We began reading The Cask of Amontillado and completed the Before Reading Activities in our Learning Logs. We will finish reading COA tomorrow in class.

Students worked in small groups to complete a body biography for one of the characters in The Most Dangerous Game. The students were also asked to correct the map activity that they started on Monday. For homework, students should finish correcting their maps of Ship Trap Island.

Tuesday, September 1

Today students completed the FUSE Color Activity. The color activity is designed to help students recognize their own unique learning styles and the ways in which they can improve their performance in school. The students also discussed the strengths that they each bring to our classroom each day. After the Color Activity, students worked on the After Reading Reflection for The Most Dangerous Game.

Students turned in their Harris Burdick writing packets today. We completed the before reading activities for The Most Dangerous Game in our Learning Logs. Students should finish reading The Most Dangerous Game in their textbooks for homework.

In class, we reviewed The Interlopers, the short story that we read yesterday in class, and discussed the plot of the short story. After graphing the plot in our Learning Logs, we completed entries 19 and 20 in our Learning Logs. Students should have entries 1-20 completed at this time and should have submitted all Learning Logs for review. Students were also given the final directions for the Harris Burdick writing activity.

HW: Harris Burdick Rough Draft due tomorrow. The packet includes all of the prewriting activities that we have completed in class.

Thursday, 8/14: As class, read excerpt from, "House on Mango Street", by Sandra Cisneros. 2nd Learning Log entry titled, "Names". Activity is to reflect on how your name influences your identity. Nickname vs. full name, popularity/frequency, choose your own name. Illustration and 10-15 sentences.
HOMEWORK: Complete Learning Log entries (3 total) for "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty".
